Borough High Street

Posted on 7th July, 2012

Cobra Steel have recently been used to erect 45t of temporary support steelwork to existing buildings in Borough high street.

The contract consisted of three buildings, all to have suport steelwork inside them to support the walls of the existing buildings.

The first building had a 3 meter square tower inside it which runs from the basement to the underside of the roof on the 3rd floor.

All of the steelwork came in on a trolley at ground floor level and was hoisted up through holes cut in the existing floors. All hole sizes were kept to the absolute minimun so as not to reduce the stability of the already unstable floors.

Once the tower was up, waler beams and tie beams were installed tied back to the tower. These were then tied through the wall.

The other 2 buildings were similar in design, apart from the fact that there was no tower. The floors were tied together with bracings.
